Mr. Sunil Gavaskar, one of the greatest batsmen of all time, earned his place in the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame in 2009 after a remarkable 16-year career dominating the game. As captain of the Indian Cricket team for 47 test matches, Gavaskar left an indelible mark on the sport. His achievements include being the only Indian cricketer to score two centuries in a Test match on 3 occasions, the first-ever player to amass 10,000 runs in test matches and the first fielder (excluding wicket-keepers) to reach the landmark of 100 catches, boasting a total of 108 catches during his illustrious career.
Apart from being a cricketing legend, he is also a humanitarian working closely with Heart to Heart to provide better healthcare to the less fortunate. Annually, Mr. Gavaskar sponsors 35 pediatric cardiac surgeries, a gesture to parallel his 35 international cricket centuries, thus saving numerous precious lives. Mr. Gavaskar has also been involved in supporting rural medical education initiatives. Gavaskar views these humanitarian acts as 'Gifts of Life', an opportunity to improve many lives. Now playing his 'third innings', Gavaskar continues his mission to save lives and enhance healthcare worldwide, embodying a commitment to making a lasting impact beyond the boundaries of the cricket field.
